This is Breakthrough
Five years in the making, innovation-packed Breakthrough is the answer to her owners' inquiry: "What kind of green technology can you include?" Feadship's bold response was a multi-faceted, zero-diesel approach designed to cruise between harbours and to operate the yacht's hotel load and amenities with emission-free power from green hydrogen. One of the biggest hurdles was developing a reasonable way to store compressed liquid hydrogen below deck at -253°C aboard a luxury yacht, but the owner saw the value in investing in this technology necessary to make a transition away from fossil fuel to one of the most efficient and cleanest options.

Breakthrough is not only the world's first hydrogen fuel cell superyacht — she is also the largest motor yacht ever launched in The Netherlands. At 118.80 metres, she carries sixteen PowerCell hydrogen fuel cell systems producing 3 megawatts of clean power, with water vapour as the only exhaust. Her fuel cell technology alone can sustain an entire week of silent operation at anchor, or propel her at 10 knots through protected marine zones without a single drop of fossil fuel.
Silence, Reimagined
Two rotating 3,200 kilowatt ABB azimuthing thrusters push Breakthrough through the water in near silence — no shaft lines, no conventional rudders, no vibration. When running on hydrogen, her fuel cells generate electricity through an electrochemical process entirely free of combustion, making her one of the quietest superyachts afloat. At anchor in the most remote and protected bays in the world, she can run entirely emission-free.

Open to the Sea
Breakthrough features more hull openings than any Feadship to date. Fourteen balconies slide silently out from flush hull sides at the touch of a button, each carrying its own railings or glass side walls — no crew required. Seven large opening platforms and nine massive shell doors complete her connection to the water. When fully deployed, the balcony floors rise to become perfectly level with the interior rooms, vibration-free as per contract.

A World Within
Designed inside and out by Studio RWD, Breakthrough's interiors balance chicly simple spaces with an extraordinary attention to detail. Over one hundred shades of white and off-white fabrics and leathers are woven throughout, alongside Travertine marble, rattan, fumed eucalyptus and limed oak. Indirect lighting, toe-kick illumination and backlit furniture features create a warm coastal atmosphere across all seven decks, where curves and circles are the dominant leitmotif.
The Ultimate Secret
Hidden within Breakthrough's keel, beneath the beach club, lies one of the most extraordinary spaces in superyacht history: an underwater lounge accessed by a concealed staircase. Six near floor-to-ceiling windows of double-layered 7-centimetre glass reveal the ocean in full. Above, the beach club lounge, spa, steam room, sauna with plunge pools, hair and nail salon, and a Dolby Atmos cinema for twelve complete a lower deck unlike any other afloat.
“The aim has been to develop a new, clean technology not just for this project, but for the world.”
